About ICE Technology 
 
ICE is transforming its technology platform by adopting cloud and distributed computing, leveraging the best, currently available cloud platform (AWS), the most popular language stack/runtime (JVM, with Scala and Java) and a range of modern, scalable and resilient technologies (GRPC/HTTP, Apache Kafka, AWS Aurora/RedShift, AWS S3, Docker/ECS/EKS). 
The organisation is also embracing agile methodologies, with quick delivery cycles and close collaboration between different functions, using a multi-functional delivery teams that are self-organising, largely autonomous and responsible for the entire delivery cycle: from design to operations

You are responsible for:

As Engineering Manager you will play a central part in growing a successful engineering organisation capable of delivering new business capabilities using the modern cloud-native technology stack and agile ways of working.  
  • Manage a cross-functional team consisting of Engineers (Software/QE/Operations) and a dedicated Product Manager/Owner 
  • Define, align and evaluate career/professional development goals of direct reports 
  • Provide clarity around goals/expectations for the team as a part of a wider engineering organisation 
  • Create an inspiring, open and safe environment for the team and the wider organisation 
  • Promote good engineering practices around design, quality and operations 
  • Support close collaboration with Business, Product Managers/Owners and Agile Coach (ScrumMaster) 
  • Take ownership of areas of the platform the team is responsible for, from requirements to operations 
  • Participate in operational on-call duties (escalation path) and incident management activities 
  • Help developing and executing architectural vision and technical direction to create highly available and scalable solutions 
  • Coordinate HR and recruitment activities with the HR department (maintaining job descriptions, facilitating interviews, onboarding of new hires) 
  • Coach, mentor and train your team by challenging them to do their best work 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Management/leadership experience (3-5 years) 
  • Deep knowledge of full software delivery lifecycle (design, development, testing, delivery, operations) 
  • Deep experience of distributed and cloud computing technologies and practices (AWS, NoSQL/SQL data stores, messaging platforms, security, performance, observability, SRE/DevOps etc.) 
  • Good understanding of architecture/design styles, techniques and practices (Microservices, Event-driven Architecture, Domain-Driven Design, Test-Driven Development, etc.) 
  • Critical thinker with problem-solving skills 
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Fluency in English for both written and verbal communication 
  • Basic knowledge of German language beneficial
